Hemopet set the standard for veterinary transfusion medicine in 1986 and opened the world's first private non-profit animal blood bank and greyhound rescue/adoption program [Pet Life-Line] in 1991.
Since that time the company has grown to encompass three divisions: the licensed Blood Bank; Pet Life-Line, the greyhound rescue/adoption arm; and Hemolife, the diagnostic laboratory. Each has been cited for exemplary peformance and achieved world wide recognition. Accuracy, Reliability, the Patented Method of interpreting results and our personal one-on-one service are our BEST assets. there is no other veterinary laboratory in the world featuring patented, environmentally friendly “green” methods, prompt turn around time and personal consultation.
Veterinary transfusion medicine is a vibrant emerging specialty. We service over 2000 veterinary clinics nationwide and in Canada. Plans are currently underway to develop other regional centers and a coordinated national effort to maximize the efficiency and use of existing inventory. Practical, safe and affordable transfusion medicine continues to be our goal. HEMOPET is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization: Fed. ID #95-4063237.
Our licensed facility houses a colony of healthy, canine donors of universal blood type (DEA 4), maintained in an outstanding environment, screened for an inclusive list of pathogens, and current on all vaccinations. They are all Greyhounds deemed unsuitable for the racing industry. We maintain 175 donors at present in our large facility in Garden Grove, California and have initiated a novel re-homing-donor-adoption program for them. All the dogs have been neutered and receive on-site 24 hours-a-day veterinary care and maintenance.
